We have defined law as (legally) the system of rules which a particular country recognizes as regulating the actions of its members, and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties; or a rule defining correct procedure or behavior in a sport. In science, it is a descriptive generalization about how some aspects of the natural world behaves under stated circumstances, or a relationship between cause and effect; or a statement of what occurs in nature, as found by observation or experiment to be true.
We showed that the Creator put laws into operation to bring the universe (out of nothing) into existence and sustain it; and also stated laws (prescriptions) for man for his survival (Gen.1:3,6,14; 2:16,17; Deut.5:33; 6:2).
He also gave man the ability to act like Him, having power to put laws into operation (Pro.18:21; Mk.11:23) and the wisdom to enact laws that will maintain order.
We did show that while the Lord respects laws (natural or human), He is NOT bound by them; for He is Sovereign and overrides them according to need.
Today, we shall continue in the exposition with a message
Topic: REPEALING THE REPUGNANT LAWS Subtexts: Exo.1:7-14,22; 2:23-25
There are laws prescribed by spirits or men that run contrary to the will of God (3Jn.2). The laws may be rules, or spiritual or secular decrees, court judgments, official statements or regulations passed by people in authority, or democratically in the society (residential areas, business place, school, city, etc). Such are to be considered “repugnant” (abhorrent, offensive, objectionable). The course of such laws is to bring the child of God down (in some way), if left unchecked. Such laws are common in the reigns of emperors and tyrants (dictators, oppressors) as recorded with Nebuchadnezzar (Dan.2:1-22; 3:1-6), Darius (Dan.6:4-9), Pharaoh (Exo.1:8-14, 16-20), Herod the great (Matt.2:1-17), etc.
The law can be in form of a decision taken or kept in the mind as with the Abimelechs (Gen.20:1-6; 26:1-3), Laban (Gen.31:3-12, 38-41); or as utterance like a curse or prophecy as with Ham (Gen.9:20-26), Reuben (Gen.49:1-4; cp.Deut.33:6).
It can as well be the proceeds of covenants made (Exo.20:5; 2Sam.21:1-14).
Whatever be the repugnant law (that might even have become operational against God’s child), the Lord has the ability to repeal it. The annulment can be direct by His very Hand or indirect by the action of His servants or His very child (Jer.51:25, Jn.8:32).
After all, He has given men to have dominion on the earth and so uses man to settle matters on the earth (Ps.115:16; Jer.51:20-22). When His people do the needful, the obnoxious laws are aborted in their courses (2Chro.7:14; cp. 1Kgs.18:3041-45).
Moses was raised to release the Israelites from the shackles of Egypt. He was God’s instrument in God’s project (Gen.15:13-16). It must never be forgotten that the Lord has known every law that will be enacted by persons or group of people against every child of God and has the antidote to stop such in their tracks (Matt.10:29,30).
It could be government decrees/edicts, court orders, land grabbers documents, neighbourhood gang up, illegitimate death sentences, immigration orders, etc.
The death sentence on the Jews was vitiated (Esth.7:9,10; 8:7-8, 11-17) and that on Daniel was made flaccid (Dan.6:14,23-26). Laban’s laws were evacuated as God prospered the oppressed Jacob (Gen.31:3-41).
There is a provision in the Old and New Testaments for the evacuation of all laws passed against the children of Abraham (Gal.3:9-14; Ezek.18:1-2 cp. Isa.54:17; Ps.105:13-15).
Faith in the finished work of Calvary evidenced by the prayer of faith will terminate the progress of obnoxious laws. (Mk.11:24).
Whatever be the law stated or standing against you; call upon the righteous God, making your right argument and that law will be nullified (Isa.41:21, Jer.9:24)
